STRUISBAAI SCHOOL OF SKILLS
June ’21 - March ’22
This project was a highlight for FBM as we love working on briefs which leads to real and lasting impact. We offered our integrated services in order to project manage this endeavour for quick and efficient turn around. It’s great to see how well this school was received by the local community of Struisbaai.
The main focus of this school is to empower learners with practical & indispensable skills. Only four out of ten children starting school in South Africa matriculate and while there is high levels of unemployment, there is simultaneously a huge shortage of practical skills within our economy.
This new school aims to provide just that in order to empower learners to get good jobs after school and for them to form part of our economy and integrate successfully into society at large.
This new development is an extension of Struisbaai Primary School. Two new skills subjects that were introduced include civil maintenance and food production. Civil maintenance entails skills like value-based leadership as well.
80% of learners who started Grade 1 in Struisbaai Primary between 2002 and 2006 left school before completing matric. It was found that many learners who suffered academically have a great aptitude for practical skills.
Through teaching and cultivating appropriate skills that are in demand in our societies, this project aims to enable employment and spark entrepreneurial thinking.
We are very proud to say that The Struisbaai School of Skills project was completed in less than a year. The start date was June 2021 and it was completed in March 2022. This was a very rewarding project and we were honoured to be part of it.
