Fred Brown, Founder of FBM

Hi There,
I am Fred Brown,
Founder of FBM

I have nearly 35 years’ experience in project management, construction project management and quantity surveying in the construction, property development and mining industries. As a partner in SBDS Project Management Services, I managed projects such as the Steenberg Country Hotel, the restaurant complex and staff housing with the related external works and the Victoria Junction apartments and studios first phase. I then launched my own company, only specialising in project and construction management and later launched the stone masonry specialist company, S.O.T.E (Pty) Ltd, supplying and installing projects such as Arabella, Oubaai, Simola, Pezula, Asara, Steenberg, Fancourt and many others.

Through the years I have managed many projects in the commercial, industrial and residential industries. My experience extends to contracting, pre-contract work and the management of scoping and EIA processes and specialist studies for guide plan amendment and ROD. I was the chief project manager / co-owner of the 2,500,000 m² bulk Destiny Africa development successfully obtaining environmental and rezoning rights for one of the three largest developments in Southern Africa of its time. The vision of this project is to provide skills and work to uplift the Southern Cape area. I also managed and coordinated the Guide Plan Amendment, Environmental and Rezoning approvals for other project such as the Blue Mountain Estate. I was also involved as a project management Consultant for Exxaro, JSE listed SA mining group, managing and procuring the Project Management process of Initiation and Planning, compiling Project Charters, Definition Release approvals, Scope Statements, WBS, Scheduling, Feasibility Studies, CBS, Economic evaluations, Execution Release approvals and Project Execution Plans, environmental management and coordination, coordination and management of consultants, Specialists and Authorities of environmental processes and licenses.

The past few years I successfully completed the principal agency, Project Management and Quantity surveying role at the Jakes Gerwel Technical School in Bonnievale and the new Struisbaai School of Skills to give quality education to those in need. I am also working on the Weltevrede Wine Estate’s new tasting area, underground cellar, offices, restaurant and craft area in Bonnievale. I am also managing the Leleshwa project in Naivasha, Kenya with their new wine cellar, related buildings and external works and the future polo facilities, clubhouse, boutique hotel and residential estate.

Currently I am the project director of NewCarbon, managing the upstart of a company providing sustainable solutions by transforming biomass and biomass waste into Biochar, activated carbon, wood vinegar and related products for soil rehabilitation, animal feed, medicinal products and water purification.

I am a graduate of the University of Port Elizabeth (BSc QS) and holds a Diploma in Practical Project Management from UNISA. I am passionate about working on projects uplifting communities such as the Jakes Gerwel Technical School and the Struisbaai School of Skills which provide skills to empower families for the future. I believe each project I manage is an adventure created by God to make an impact in people’s lives and communities.

By building FBM, I would like to build a sustainable company for my immediate and wider family to make a positive impact on future generations.

Hi There,
I am Robert De Bruyn
, Project Construction Manager

I have been part of multiple construction projects over the last 25 years, ranging from civil roadworks to shopping centre building projects. During this time, I have worked in multiple roles giving me a good understanding of the heartbeat and rhythms of construction projects.

I have had the privilege of working on projects like Van Loveren Wines, the @4C Building and the Shoprite and Spar shopping centres in Robertson. Being part of the Jakes Gerwel project in Bonnievale introduced me to the FBManagement team for the first time.

Recently I worked on the Leleshwa Cellar and various other projects in East Africa as well as gaining insights on two groundbreaking projects for KNC, a Bio char and NH3 facility.

Currently I am focusing on construction project management through combining actual job experience gained with certifications from UCT Construction and Business Management as well as project management fundamentals attained through USB Business School.

“I am passionate about working on projects uplifting communities such as the Jakes Gerwel Technical School and the Struisbaai School of Skills which provide skills to empower families for the future.”
